The Importance of Accreditation

Accreditation is essential in forensic science, where precision, reliability, and legal defensibility are critical. Mérieux NutriSciences was the first private laboratory in Canada to be accredited in accordance with the forensic testing guidelines of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). This ensures that our testing methods and quality systems meet the highest national standards.

Our SCC-accredited services include the examination of evidentiary items for blood, semen, saliva, and hairs that may be suitable for STR and/or Y-STR DNA analysis—methods commonly used in criminal and civil investigations.

Trusted and Accredited Forensic Laboratory

With over two decades of experience, Mérieux NutriSciences is recognized across Canada for delivering forensic biology and DNA testing services that meet the highest standards of scientific and legal rigour. Our SCC-accredited laboratory examines evidentiary items for blood, semen, saliva, and hairs that may be suitable for STR and/or Y-STR DNA analysis.

Our work is trusted in criminal and civil investigations, and our scientists are frequently called upon to provide expert testimony in court. By following strict accreditation protocols, we ensure that every result is legally defensible, scientifically validated, and consistently reliable—making us a dependable partner in high-stakes forensic cases.

Serving Law Enforcement Across Canada

Since 2001, our SCC-accredited laboratory has been the sole external provider of forensic DNA services to the RCMP National Forensic Laboratory Service. We’ve supported over 350 police agencies and worked on cases including homicides, assaults, arson, break and enters, and motor vehicle accidents. Our lab has submitted more than 9,700 DNA profiles to the National DNA Databank, helping law enforcement agencies solve crimes across the country.

Both are in a modern, well-lit laboratory setting, suggesting collaboration and decades of forensic DNA expertise.

Decades of Expertise

Since becoming accredited in 2000, the DNA Lab has been the sole provider of forensic DNA testing services to the RCMP under a Standing Offer. The lab has also worked with over 350 law enforcement agencies across Canada.
